The Basics of Truck and Bus Tyres | LONGMARCH Tire

Founded in 2003, Chao Yang LONGMARCH Tire Co., Ltd. (referred to as LONGMARCH Tire) has grown into a modern enterprise specializing in the research, development, production, and sales of all-steel radial tires. With over 20 years of continuous innovation and upgrades, LONGMARCH Tire now boasts an annual production capacity of 4.5 million sets and a complete product line covering truck and bus tires, as well as high-performance engineering tires. Our annual sales revenue exceeds 4 billion yuan, underscoring our position as a leading global tire manufacturer.

Introduction to Tyre Use and Legal Compliance

Choosing the right tyre for commercial trucks and buses is essential for ensuring safety, regulatory compliance, and operational efficiency. Every tyre must meet vehicle manufacturer specifications, legal requirements, and industry standards—covering parameters such as size, load index, speed rating, and structural design. If vehicle modifications are made, it is critical to verify that replacement tyres comply with all regulations and receive any necessary approvals.

Used or second-hand tyres, or those involved in accidents, should always be carefully inspected by professionals before installation to guarantee safety and compliance. Incorrect tyre selection or misuse can accelerate wear on vehicle components and compromise safety.

How to Choose the Right Tyre: Four Essential Steps

Step 1: Determine the Correct Tyre Size

Tyre size must be approved by the vehicle manufacturer and meet or exceed the axle’s maximum load capacity. Using tyres capable of carrying higher loads than approved does not authorize exceeding the manufacturer's limits. Tyres must also match appropriate wheel rims to avoid damage and ensure optimal contact with the road.

Step 2: Choose the Correct Tyre Type

At LONGMARCH Tire, we provide a wide range of tyres engineered for diverse applications and environments:

  • Long Haul Tyre: Designed for extended highway mileage, offering superior fuel efficiency and durability.

  • Regional Tyre: Optimized for shorter routes with frequent stops, turns, and varying surfaces.

  • Mixed Service On&Off Tyre: Versatile tyres suitable for both highway and off-road conditions.

  • Mining Tyre: Heavy-duty tyres tailored for the extreme conditions of mining operations.

  • Urban Tyre: Specialized for city driving, with excellent grip and braking performance.

  • Winter Tyre: Engineered for safety and traction in icy and snowy conditions.

  • Economical Tyre: Cost-effective tyres focused on extended life and lower operating costs.

  • OTR Tyre: Off-the-road tyres for construction, forestry, and other challenging terrains.

  • Agricultural Tyre: Designed to support agricultural machinery with optimal traction and soil protection.

Step 3: Identify the Right Performance Benefits

Different tyre models offer unique advantages such as fuel efficiency, durability, retreadability, traction, or wear resistance. Selecting the right tyre based on operational needs improves safety, reduces downtime, and lowers total cost of ownership.

Step 4: Choose the Appropriate Tread Pattern

Tread patterns should be selected according to axle position and specific application:

  • Steering Axles: Use tread patterns “F” or “Z” for optimal load capacity and handling. Avoid Remix tyres on first steering axles.

  • Drive Axles: Use “D” or “Z” patterns designed for high torque and heavy loads. “D” patterns generally provide superior performance.

  • Trailer Axles: Use “T” or “Z” patterns marked with “FRT” (Free Rolling Tyre) per ETRTO standards. “T” patterns must not be used on steering or drive axles.
